Blog ##more## not working

Just finishing off a new site using 5.3.9 and have put first blog article in:

I have found that the ususal ##more## tag does not work. Has this changed recently?

and am using recent post tag at bottom of page@ I have put the More tage after the word data

I should clarify...it does not work in the recent post embed.
So if I put in the tag on the front page to show
{{recentposts:"1":}
it shows the post, but none of the post formatting comes across, and neither does the ##more##
