Empty Block Results in Blank Page - Pulse 5

Wow, banged my head against a wall for a while on this one. If a block is empty and it is included in a page using a code like: {{block:home/main}} the entire front end web page is blank/empty.

Can that be changed? It seems like if a block is empty - or even missing, if a user would delete it - it should just return an empty paragraph or div so the entire page is not destroyed. :frowning:

Are you using 5.0.1?

Yeah sounds like a bug that was fixed in 5.0.1 @vwatson :slight_smile:

I am using 5.0.1. I tried deleting content from the blocks on a page to duplicate the error, but couldn’t reproduce it. When I have time, I’ll try it again. It seemed to happen when I first created the blocks and they had no content.

I was able to reproduce the error by creating a new block, not editing the block - therefore it is totally empty.

Then if I reference that block in a Pulse page, I do get a blank page on the front end of the site.

Using this code:
{{block:banners/home}}

and there is nothing in the home block.

Thanks @vwatson for the steps - let us test this and then we’ll fix for 5.0.2

In the meantime - try not to run empty ones!

Unfortunately, I can’t control what the client may or may not do. :sunglasses:
